Legends Fund

What is the Legends Fund  all about?

Started in 2009 by a loyal group of Old Kingswoodians who came together to raise funds to enable the son of a terminally-ill classmate to attend Kingswood, the Legends Fund quickly took on a life of its own. Inspired by the overwhelming generosity and commitment of its founders – all of them loyal and passionate Old Kingswoodians – "legends’ in their time at the College, and now "legends" again in their support, the Legends Fund  moved beyond the original aim to a plan to build a meaningful reserve for Kingswood College from which deserving pupils can be assisted with bursary and scholarship support.   In 2010, a daring raffle was held, in which the prize was a prime property on the Kenton Eco-Estate in the Eastern Cape.  Only 900 tickets were sold at R1 000 each, giving ticket holders a 1-in-900 chance of winning the property - excellent odds!  On K-Day, 14 August, renowned cricketer Brett Matthews drew the winning ticket in a draw supervised by Mr Adrian Stolz of Brandt Bowling & Co.  Ticket no 208 belonged to Mr Calvin Zitzke from Kwelera in East London who had been persuaded to buy a ticket in the raffle by his boss, Old Kingswoodian Mark Trow from the Class of 1979.  His prize, the beautiful property on the Kenton Eco-Estate was presented to him a few days later.  This initiative raised R900 000 for the  Legends Fund   to build up the Kingswood Scholarship and Bursary warchest.    While Mr Zitzke won the property, there will be many more winners as a result of the income generated from the  Legends Fund.

The  Legends Fund  lives on, and the drive to build the reserve for Kingswood’s future is being championed by the same passionate "legends" who initiated the Fund.   Under the leadership of the new OK Club President, Jonathan Goldberg (OK 1979), the "legends" are appealing to OKs and friends of Kingswood to sign up for a monthly  amount to be contributed to the Legends Fund  based on the premise that a little from many people every month will amount to a consistent income stream for Kingswood which can be used to assisted many young people to have a Kingswood education.
