Devon Kemp has been a part of the Water Polo Boys 1st Team for the last 3 years. Devon has represented Eastern Province at U13 and U14 levels and has now been selected for the U18A Eastern Province Team.
Devon is as tenacious as it comes. Devon has faced many obstacles to get to this point. From being a relatively young member of the team, he has grown in stature and ability over the years. He also suffered a debilitating elbow injury, having to have an operation and then suffer through the subsequent rehabilitation. Despite all this Devon never dropped his head nor became discouraged and has come back stronger and more determined than ever.
As a player Devon trains harder than anyone else, always pushing team mates to go harder and faster. It’s always awesome to watch Devon and Thomas trying to beat each other in every swim they do at the training sessions and this rivalry and competiveness has pushed the team and individuals to phenomenal new heights. Devon is a mountain in defence, and the team build their counter attacks around Devon’s ability to steal the ball on defence. His speed in the pool is very rarely matched by opposing players. His positive attitude and ability to communicate with the team has also lead to him being selected the Kingswood College Water Polo Captain for the 2017/18 season.
In closing Devon has personified what the Kingswood College 1st Team Water Polo Boys live by and stands for. “Team above else” and “Never give up, Never ever give up!”. It is a great pleasure to award Devon Kemp, Honours for Water Polo.
