News » Bridging Year students do Open Water Diving Course

3rd April 2012

The Kingswood Bridging Year students completed a full entry level PADI certification course for open water diving recently. The course applies the concept of performance based learning. In order to meet specific performance requirements they were first exposed to the theory of diving followed by an examination. The students then participated in 3 segments of practical training: confined water dives, knowledge and skills development, and 5 open water (sea) dives. Many fears of water - especially in the sea - and limitations were tested as they dove to the bottom (16m) of the sea off the coast of Port Elizabeth, yet they came through with flying colours.  The boys had to rely on good team work skills and learned how to trust someone who they were only getting to know as they plunged into the depths of the ocean.
