The development of leadership skills is a priority at Kingswood College Junior School. In the formal leadership programme, all Grade 7s play a part in the various committees :
Each committee has a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Secretary (scribe). These positions rotate each term to expose more students to leadership opportunities. A staff member acts as a facilitator but the students are the driving force behind each committee, coming up with a plan of action and various ideas during the course of the year.
The Class Assistant programme presents an important leadership opportunity for the Grade 7s. Two class assistants ‘take care’ of a class for one term. These duties are rotated, with different assistants taking over for the following term.
The Public Speaking programme involves all pupils from Grade 4 – 7 who are given the opportunity to deliver three welcome addresses, three main addresses and three ‘thank yous’ during the programme.
At the end of each year, the customary King Pin awards are made to certain Grade 7 pupils in recognition of exceptional leadership, loyalty and exemplary service to the school. These awards are voted for by the Grade 6 and 7 pupils as well as the staff.
