Thembinkosi Mangwana is prepared to make a big statement in the Rugby Europe Super Cup after committing to join the front row of the Tel Aviv Heat.
Congratulations to Thembi Mangwana (OK ’17) who has been selected to play in the front row for Tel Aviv Heat, Israel’s First Professional Rugby team. This year the Tel Aviv Heat will take part in the inaugural season of Rugby Europe Super Cup. Their selection to take part in this rugby cup provides them with an opportunity to compete with players from around the world who have played for their countries in various Rugby World Cups.
Thembi matriculated from Kingswood in the 2017, having grown up on small farm in the Eastern Cape. Thembi does not hide the fact that he attributes a great deal of his development as a rugby player to Kingswood College as well as his mentors, at school, but also in the years since.
We caught up with Thembi this morning to hear how he feels about this wonderful achievement:
“It is such an honour and a privilege to be associated with Tel Aviv Heat in the upcoming Rugby Europe Super Cup. It has been a tough journey leading up to this, and the Covid-19 pandemic has added new challenges to playing in this space. There has been a lot of ups and downs and the road has not been easy. However, I have never given up hope, and through my hard work and dedication, I am pleased how things have turned out. I would like to give all the credit for these achievements to all the coaches that I have had the privilege to be associated with, and who have helped nurture my rugby talent from the very beginning”.
On the Tel Aviv Heat website, they describe Thembi as a player who “prides himself on his physicality on the field, with a potent blend of solid scrummaging at loosehead prop along with mobility and skills in open play”, they go on to say that at “Thembi will pose daunting weapon on attack with ball in hand”.
Congratulations Thembi! We are incredibly proud of you.
