“Before a child talks they sing. Before they write they draw. As soon as they stand they dance. Art is fundamental to human expression.” – Phylicia Rashad
The Arts form an integral part of Kingswood College life. Art, Music and Drama at Kingswood provide a space for our pupils to build confidence, express themselves creatively, develop as innovative and open-minded individuals and foster a curiosity for the arts. Creative thinking, collaboration, discipline, and bold expression are all essential skills for school and beyond.
The Music School, established in 1996, is home to seven music teachers and the many pupils who cross its threshold every week. A wide-ranging series of concerts occur throughout the academic year, ranging from solo recitals and large-scale concerts both on campus and off.
All pupils take part in music as part of their curriculum up to Grade 9 level, thereafter they can continue with Subject Music as one of their core subjects, or just participate on an enrichment level.
With both junior and senior school productions, inter-house plays, outstanding academic results, and talent to spare, Kingswood’s Drama department entertains and inspires the entire Kingswood community.
All pupils take part in drama as part of their curriculum up to Grade 9 level, after which pupils can choose the Dramatic Arts as one of their core subjects, or just participate on an enrichment level.
Visual Art is highly valued at Kingswood and we enjoy a long tradition of excellence at the school. A subject that activates the imagination and cultivates creative thinking, the skills gained from the subject are increasingly essential in many careers and businesses in the 21st century. Visual Art is comprised of theory (Art History) and a practical component.
