At Kingswood, from the beginner to the elite athlete, we strive to not just offer every girl and boy the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports, but to inspire a lifelong interest and enjoyment in it.
Our team of dedicated full-time professional coaches (hockey, cricket, rugby, water polo and tennis) and passionate specialist teacher-coaches (across the other disciplines) play a key role in helping each pupil fulfil their potential, and ensure our teams play in some of the most competitive school sports leagues in the country. Many Kingswood pupils also hold numerous provincial and national representations across various disciplines.
Being a smaller school, in comparison to our competitors, has a number of benefits for our pupils:
Pupils benefit from first-class coaching, with many of Kingswood’s sports coaches having previously competed at high levels themselves, including full-time professional coaches for hockey, cricket, rugby, water polo and tennis.
Great teams are often a product of those supporting each of the players. At Kingswood, we are privileged to have a top-quality team supporting our players across disciplines. These include two Strength and Conditioning coaches and the Kingswood Sanatorium which is supported by nursing staff, a School Doctor (also a specialist Sports Physician), two Physiotherapists and a Biokineticist.
Impact Concussion Tests are run in conjunction with a Rhodes University Sports Psychologist and are available to all pupils who participate in school sports (particularly contact sports such as Rugby).
Our large campus is home to some amazing sporting facilities: seven sports fields (one floodlit), a full-sized swimming and water polo pool (floodlit), an astroturf (floodlit), courts for tennis, netball, basketball, squash, an athletics track and a High-Performance Centre, complete with indoor running track, weights room, aerobic circuit areas and more.
