The annual Kingswood Golf Day in Johannesburg was back with a bang on Friday last week after skipping a year or two due to the pandemic. The beautiful Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club hosted about 50 enthusiastic golfers who were rearing to go in near perfect conditions for golf.
The enthusiasm among the golfers was palpable as they set off to the 1st tee where – alas – a few golfing reputations took a bit of a dive!
At the conclusion of the golf and more OKs joined for dinner in the St Georges room where over 80 Kingswoodians from various eras gathered to have dinner together. Many stories were told, some embellished somewhat, and the camaraderie amongst our family was electric.
It was so nice to see so many of the younger OKs present and this gave our new College Head, Leon Grové, the opportunity to engage with a broad cross-section of OKs.
Bheki Ngulube (Head Prefect 2006) took charge of the proceedings as our very competent MC. The prize giving was handled first and here we must pay tribute to our sponsors – without them days like this cannot take place.
The champion OK golfer for 2022 was Khunji Ngumbela (banner photo) with a score of 38 points. Well done Khunji!
Dinner was served at the conclusion of the prize-giving whereafter OKs spent a lovely evening engaging with each other – all too soon the final round was called and the evening came to a somewhat abrupt halt, but we were left in no doubt that there is renewed energy in Johannesburg to get this OK branch up and running again.
Our thanks to Sam Morrison for the amazing work she does for the OK Club. Her enthusiasm is infectious and this has definitely rubbed off on OKs in Jozi. Thank you, Sam.
