Our Grade 4s went on an adventurous “critter” walkabout 10km’s outside of Grahamstown to discover the creepy crawlies in our “backyard” this week.
The group was led by Chad Keates ,Herpetologist and entomologist, Megan Reid.
The walk was extremely successful as the children found various butterflies, beetles, scorpions, snakes and lizards to name a few. The walk was ended of with a snake demonstration where the learners saw a variety of snakes, both venomous and non-venomous. It’s was an absolute treat for the children to touch and feel a Brown house snake and a beautiful Ball snake.
The Grade 4’s have spent most of the term exploring mammals, reptiles, body structures etc and were enthusiastic about applying what they had learnt in the classroom to real life.
Not only did they learn about various critters, they also learnt about the importance of being safe in the bush and how to show respect for all things great and small.
