Before K-Day weekend, we wouldn’t have thought ‘virtual’ reunions were even possible – but our classes of 1990, 2000 and 2010 showed us just how wrong we were!
K-Day 2020 has come and gone. The first since it’s beginnings that The Wyvern and The Highlander were silent…our campuses of Kingswood, DSG, SAC and Prep were all quite. While the pupils didn’t battle it out on the sports field, music rooms or debating halls, we still celebrated – we still reflected on what K-Day has actually come to mean to us:
Unity. Friendship. Camaraderie. Reunions. Competition…. A time to remember and celebrate our youth, our traditiuons and so much more.
When it got close to the weekend, we racked our brains and stretched our technical prowess to try and find ways to keep our Old Kingswoodians, who would have had reunions this year, connect to each other over K-Day. A time they would have undoubtedly have been back on campus again.
Determined to keep the Kingswood Spirit alive, the OK Office got in touch with the year coordinators Jason Collett (2010), Liezl Stretton (2000) and Chris Hobson (1990) to arrange virtual reunions – certainly a first in the annals of Kingswood’s history. The idea caught on immediately and in no time at all our 3 year coordinators had a big collection of photographs and video messages from their respective classmates. Thanks to the expertise of Megan Erasmus (KC Brand Manager) this media was collated into great video clips for each class.
The anticipation for the launch of the reunion microsite was tangible and when the launch took place on Friday (the day the classes would have arrived for their reunions) it had the desired effect of bringing these OKs “back to Kingswood”. This sparked a sense of camaraderie that we are so used to at KC – we had reports that the class of 1990 spent over 5 hours of catch-up time with classmates from all over the world and the class of 2000 were close behind. There was literally no better news for us to hear! Besides these ‘teaser’ clips, all OKs were then directed to our Reunion microsite were they could access photos from their year and messages from their classmates

Reunion Microsite:
Our thanks to the coordinators Liezl, Brett, Chris and Jason for all that they did to get the info to us. There is no doubt that this will provide the impetus for a great postponed reunion next year. Megan did an amazing job producing this magnificent production so all ion all this was a great team effort that has certainly laid down a marker for years to come.
