Kingswood is incredibly proud of Rory Sandberg (OK 2006) and Jonathan Willows (OK 2007) who were nominated as Western Cape and Eastern Cape Young Farmer of the Year respectively.

With fierce competition in South Africa’s agricultural sector, spanning the country’s vast terrain, being nominated as Farmer of the Year is no easy feat. Despite this, two Old Kingswoodians have recently been nominated.

Rory Sandberg (OK 2006) was nominated as Western Cape Farmer of the Year. According to Plaas Media, Rory “has been farming with dairy cattle on Woodside Farm near Knysna for nine years. The cattle on the farm are milked from the pastures. No power feed is being fed. He believes in the sustainability of his soil and focuses first on doing things “right” and then on making a profit”.

The winner was announced at the end of June, and whilst Rory was not the winner, we are extremely proud of his nomination. Well done, Rory!

Jonathan Willows (OK 2007) was also nominated as the Eastern Cape Farmer of the Year. Jonathan runs a mixed farming operation with dairy and pineapples in the East London district.

“Jonathan is a 3rd generation Dairy Farmer just outside of East London and represents the East London Western Districts FA in this year’s competition. He believes in the capturing and use of data in his business to maximize profits. Biosecurity is one of his top priorities especially with all the current risks.

He recently decided to invest in Pineapple farming to mitigate risk in his operation. He supplies local markets in both his enterprises and believes that young farmers should be the backbone of their communities”. – AgriEC

Well done, Jonathan on this great achievement!
