A happy group of OKs converged on Makhanda on 17 March to spend 4 days together having fun and reminiscing about the good and carefree days of life at Kingswood in 1982.

For these events to be successful you need a leader to organize and run the show so right at the outset we must thank Lynda Brotherton (nee Birch) for the inordinate amount of time and effort that she invested to make this reunion the success that it turned out to be.

Game drives, golf days, wine tasting, sundowners, water skiing, watching KC  1st XV beat Queens, tours of the Kingswood campus together with many sumptuous meals at the Wyvern provided the perfect cocktail for one heck of a party! Hats off to these OKs who managed to survive 4 days of revelry – you set the bar high for future reunions.

The reunion ended on a poignant note when these classmates gathered in the Kingswood Chapel to remember three of their classmates who had passed away (Gary Handley, Di Spink and Chris Hart) in a short ceremony lead by Kingswood Chaplain Rev Tim Marshall.

Stories about these friends were recounted and before the school hymn was sung followed by a rousing rendition of “God be with you till we meet again” ably led by Melanie Keartland. This group raised a sum of money at the reunion to erect a wall of remembrance outside the Chapel next to the northern transept on which the names of OKs who have passed away can be placed. What a wonderful gesture by the Class of 1982.

Our thanks to those who travelled from abroad and to all those who made this such a happy event.
