The sounds of strings resonated this past weekend at the South African Strings Foundation Convention held at Summerwood Primary in Gqeberha.

Our String players, ranging from Grade 3 to Matric, were fortunate enough to be able to join in last Friday for this exciting occasion right on our doorstep!

The Convention was for students, music teachers, researchers, composers and string enthusiasts and included masterclasses, technique workshops, international connections, performance opportunities and warm-up classes.

At least 20 artists and presenters were involved and over 150 students attended.

Here is some feedback from our young musicians:

“It was inspirational to hear other string players perform at a higher level and the feedback received from the presenters was invaluable. There was so much for us to bring home!” – Susan Kunju, Violin teacher

“We got to see how other string ensembles work together and how they use different techniques and different instruments to perform a piece. We also learnt new skills from the professionals which we can now use in our own String Ensemble.” – Saffi (Grade 12)

“It was a great experience to see other violinists perform and be able to perform in front of them. It truly was a fun experience.” – PJ (Grade 7)
