Honours for Rugby!
At our Final Awards Assembly for Term 2 Kingswood College were delighted to award Honours for rugby to Sipho Nonyalela and Josh Mackenzie.

Sipho joined Kingswood College in 2023 as a Grade 11 pupil from Adelaide. From the offset he worked exceedingly hard to make the transition into the IEB syllabus and a gruelling first team rugby environment, but his work ethic and willingness to take feedback ensured that his performances were rewarded with selection into the Eastern Province Academy team in 2023. Within the same year Sipho’s integrity, leadership skills and character earned him the prestigious position of head of Jagger House at Kingswood College. Sipho trained daily during the off-season and his hard work and dedication paid off as Sipho’s performances on the field as a destructive open side flank and leading ball carrier earned him a fearsome reputation in the rugby community leading to the Sharks signing him up for a three-year rugby contract after school. Sipho was also selected into the Eastern Province Craven Week where his impressive performance earned him a place in the SA A Schools team and successive selection into the SA A U18 team for the International Series in August 2024.

Josh moved to Kingswood College earlier this year from JHB and made an immediate impression with his strength, speed and endurance but needed to make some necessary adjustments to become an all-round rugby player. Josh started producing compelling performances on a consistent basis, most notably as a ball carrier combined with an exceptional aerial game and work rate in defence. When he was required to play in the unfamiliar position of lock to assist the balance of the team, it was his versatility as a lock loose forward that earned him a position in the Eastern Province Craven Week team. During the tournament Josh caught the eye of the selectors with a man of the match performance versus Border. On his return he continued to improve in form, athletic stature and versatility resulting in a late selection into the SA U18 team for the International series in August 2024.

Congratulations Josh and Sipho!
