Kingswood College is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of 1st XV rugby players James and Josh Mackenzie, who have signed with the Glasgow Warriors Academy in Scotland.

James, an exciting wing, and Josh, a dynamic flank, will continue their rugby journeys within one of Scotland’s leading professional player development pathways when they head overseas after completing their matric examinations this year.

The opportunity marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication and a long-held ambition for the talented twins.

“This opportunity means the world to me,” said James. “Ever since I was young, rugby has been a massive part of my life, and to be given an opportunity like this is something I’m incredibly grateful for.”

Josh echoed his brother’s excitement.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity and excited to learn from some great coaches and players.”

The twins’ journey to Glasgow Warriors was strengthened through Kingswood College’s longstanding Scottish exchange programme. During their Grade 11 year, James and Josh spent time at Glenalmond College, where they attended classes, represented the school’s rugby teams and immersed themselves in Scottish school life.

As part of the exchange, they also trained with both Edinburgh Academy and Glasgow Warriors, giving them valuable exposure to the professional environment while allowing coaches to assess their potential. The experience provided an invaluable insight into the standards, culture and commitment required to succeed at the next level.

Their father, Andy Mackenzie, said the opportunity represented the fulfilment of a dream that had been years in the making.

“It is an incredibly special moment for us and a dream that has been many years in the making. Our connection to Scotland runs deep. The boys’ grandfather was born there, so representing Scotland has always been a long-term ambition for them.

“That heritage was one of the reasons we chose Kingswood College. We recognised the value of the school’s international opportunities and its established exchange programme with Scotland. We have been building relationships with Scottish Rugby for several years, and when the chance came for the boys to participate in the exchange programme, we knew it would be an important step in their journey.

“It gave them the opportunity to experience the environment first-hand while allowing the club to see them play. To watch a carefully planned journey come together like this has been incredibly rewarding.”

Kingswood College’s Director of Rugby, Murray Ranger said the twins’ achievement is a testament to their commitment, talent and willingness to embrace every opportunity presented to them, “This is an incredible accolade for Josh and James! As a school we are immensely proud of this achievement at the same time is testament to our programme and hard work of all the coaches and the players. For a club like Glasgow Warriors to show a very keen interest in our programme and our players is a huge testament to Kingswood.”

As James and Josh prepare to begin this exciting new chapter, they leave Kingswood with the best wishes of the entire school community. Their achievement reflects not only their individual talent and perseverance but also the opportunities created through meaningful international partnerships, and serves as an inspiration to the many young rugby players who will follow in their footsteps.
