“…Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours…”

Our second Subject Music Performance Class was held recently on the 29 October.

It was another good concert with some excellent performances by our musicians on a varied range of instruments including violin, flute, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, drum kit, xylophone and piano.

We are in awe at how much our pupils have accomplished in what has been a very difficult year for us all. Learning an instrument online for a large portion of the year is no easy feat, but our musicians have done us all proud!

Some background to our Subject Music Performances:

In 2018 our music department decided that senior Subject Music students did not have sufficient performance opportunities. While Sundowner Concerts became so popular with junior pupils eager to perform for their parents, many of our senior pupils performances were not able to be slotted in.

The Performance Class was subsequently launched, a relaxed environment where subject music students could practice performing their exam pieces for their music teachers and their peers.

The classes provide learning opportunities for both performers and the audience, as our pupils are given the opportunity to provide feedback to their friends. This programme has grown from one such class per term, to include enough classes so that each Subject Music pupils is given ample opportunity to perform to an audience.
