Leadership and Culture Development in Sport
Presenter: Mr Jonny Mallett
The increased focus for identifying, establishing and influencing sport team culture and leadership has been developing over many years. The need to formally recognise culture, including the establishment and reinforcement of core values, is a tangible element of sports team management practice.
This in turn can help facilitate a suitable environment for collective leadership to flourish. By acknowledging the culture as the key component that will consequently allow for an aligned combination of informal and formal transformational leadership development in individuals within a team. This approach can be extended beyond the sporting context.
What will I learn?
The talk will look at leadership in sport from a coach and athlete perspective, focusing mainly on the following aspects:
- Selecting the right people who can lead in their specific roles
- Creating a positive environment and culture within a team
- Coaching the correct skills to be successful
