Yesterday our Kingswood boys marked International Women’s Day by recognising the women that form part of the Kingswood family.

The boys called the girls together outside of the Dining Hall and gave them each a small chocolate to let them know that they are appreciated and valued. Some of our boys also decided to gather all our female Support Staff together to recognise the value that they bring to the Kingswood family and to thank them for their hard work.

We spoke to Sibu (Head Boy) and Darius (Deputy Head Boy) about the importance of celebrating a day such as this and they had the following to say:

Sibu: “International Women’s Day is important because it is a global day celebrating the social, economic and cultural achievements of women. The day is especially important as it reminds us to fight for gender equality for all”.

Darius: “International Women’s Day is a day where we recognize and acknowledge the special women in our lives. However, I strongly believe that this should not just celebrated once a year, but that we need to continually show our love and support for women, every single day. Women are strong and independent, and we should celebrate their influence on not only our own lives but also their influence on broader society”.

Why we celebrate international women’s day:

“…Celebrated on March 8 every year, International Women’s Day is a day dedicated to honoring the achievements of women throughout history and all across the globe, and is typically a day for women from all different backgrounds and cultures to band together to fight for gender parity and women’s rights…”
