“To win this award a soldier must show outstanding selfless commitment and loyalty to his fellow soldiers”
Last week we heard news about Old Kingswoodian Aidan Hawkesworth from Zambia, who matriculated from Kingswood in 2017. Aidan enrolled with the British Army 2020 and while it’s still early on in his career, his aspirations of getting to Sandhurt are looking promising.
After completing Phase 1 of basic training Aidan was awarded the rank of Lance Corporal and the prestigious ‘Soldier’s Soldier’ award. The ‘Soldier’s Soldier’ award is voted for by his fellow soldiers and as such, is held in extremely high regard. To win this award the soldier must have shown outstanding selfless commitment and loyalty to his fellow soldiers. A true credit to Kingswood grit and character!
Aidan is now a fully-fledged soldier in the 24 Commando Royal Engineers based at Chivenor, a regiment that works very closely will the Royal Marines.
According to Duncan, Aidan’s dad, things are not stopping here – Aidan has now volunteered for an 18-week Commando course. Through this his goal is to earn his Green Beret and ultimately become an Officer and make his way to The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). RMAS is where all officers in the British Army are trained to take on the responsibility of leading their soldiers. Duncan and Nicolette (his mother) are extremely proud of their son, who they say is ‘one focused young man’!
Congratulations on your achievements so far Aidan, you’re a credit to Kingswood and we wish you all the best for your future career!
