“…We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day…”
On this first day of 2022, we wish each and every Kingswoodian, past, and present as well as our wider Kingswoodian family, what we hope will be a happy, fulfilling New Year.
The last two years have most certainly not been the easiest. 2020 saw the world we lived in change completely, and as a school, community, and the rest of the world we saw ourselves in the grips of a pandemic that we could never have foreseen to affect our lives in the multitude of ways it has.
2021 brought new hope, and although the road was one that was filled with twists and turns we slowly began to navigate this new pandemic world and learned to survive and forge a new way of living with the uncertainties with which we were surrounded.
2020 and 2021 came with huge sacrifices.
Many of our community lost loved ones, whilst others have faced immense financial difficulty and others have been greatly affected by the mental toll of living through a pandemic.
Although the 2021 year was by no means an easy one, we also have a great deal to be thankful for as a school.
We were able to make it through an entire year of in-person learning albeit with a delayed start to the academic year.
Our staff and many of our pupils could be vaccinated at various points in 2021, and we are so lucky to have had this opportunity to help combat this virus in some small way.
Though campus life looked much altered, together, our pupils and staff made the best of being able to traverse the unknown – TOGETHER.
What has become most apparent in the last year is that the power of Kingswood lies in each one of the people that work at and learn at this school.
Together they have supported, have cheered on, and have offered a listening ear when the chips have been down.
It is these relationships, and the unique individuals who truly make Kingswood, Kingswood.
What the 2022 year will bring, we do not yet know. The pages are blank, and while some plot twists will be outside of our control, it is up to each one of us to write our own story for the coming year.
We hope that we will continue to see the many opportunities that we are afforded this year and that we all, will make this year one in which we will not only survive but THRIVE…
