Along with the Cricket Clinic currently taking place at Kingswood, we are also hosting a three-day Water Polo Training Clinic.
The purpose of this clinic is to help develop the talent and skill-set of the players taking part. It also further provides the participants in the clinic with an opportunity to meet and learn from other players and, in the process help to extend their own skill-set.
The clinic by all accounts got off to a great start yesterday. Our pool was a hive of activity, with lots of excitement and positive energy around!
After an initial introduction by our Head of Water Polo, Mr Ian Melliar, the players were separated into three separate groups according to their age and experience for the duration of the camp.
Our senior group (U15 – U18) coached by Mr Temba Bungane as well as our intermediate group (U12 – U14) under the guidance of Mr Josh Timm, focused predominantly on movement fundamentals, in both attack and defense. Our Splash Polo group (U8 – U11) headed up by Mr Pieter Serfontein focused more on ball familiarisation and introductory water polo movement.
All three groups finished the day with a rules & ‘tech table’ discussion with Mr Melliar and some matches to end off the day!
While the first day was quite taxing physically, all players remained highly committed to learning and growing their skill set.
The clinic is headed up by Mr Temba Bungane supported by Mr Ian Melliar, Mr Bernard Whitaker, Mr Pieter Serfontein. Mr Devon Kemp and Ms Jade Walters are also in attendance as support coaches.
