Kingswood College is honoured to have Dr Emmanuel Taban, Pulmonologist and author of The Boy Who Never Gave Up join us on Friday, 27 May for an unforgettable evening that promises to be thought-provoking and inspirational.

At the age of 16, Dr Emmanuel Taban left his country of birth, South Sudan after his father was killed in the South Sudanese Civil War. With the help of various charity groups, Dr Taban was able to complete his secondary education and was able to go on to study medicine at Medunsa University.

Despite the various challenges that Taban has faced in order to get to where he is today, he is now a successful Pulmonologist who holds three medical degrees and has most recently qualified to offer expert pulmonology care at Mediclinic Highveld (an invaluable service for a rural area) and also practises at Mediclinic Midstream.

In Conversation With – an evening with Dr Emmanuel Taban

This not to be missed event will help to raise funds for the Emmanuel Taban Foundation.

The vision of the Emmanuel Taban Foundation is to positively impact society through supporting the education and skills development of young people at secondary school level, thereby enabling them to reach their full potential through access to better quality education than they would have otherwise had. South Africa and indeed Africa has a critical shortage of skills, especially amongst the youth and it is this challenge that the foundation aims to address. The Foundation will endeavour to build networks and collaborations with like-minded organisations and individuals towards the achievement of these goals“.

The Boy Who Never Gave Up

“A REFUGEE’S epic journey to triumph is an autobiography of Dr Emmanuel Taban, who is named by the New African Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential Africans in 2020.

His life story and journey on foot and hikes from Juba in South Sudan at the age of fifteen, to Khartoum, to Eritrea, to Ethiopia, to Kenya, to Tanzania, to Mozambique, through Zimbabwe and finally to South Africa at the age of seventeen in search of education tortures your gut.

The management of suspense, the wicked sense of humour, the permanent walk in the shadow of death are illustriously captured in this 248 page book”
