The Midlands Branch of the OK Club organized a family day at the picturesque Mill Cricket Club last Sunday 15 May 2022. This beautiful venue is on Spring Grove, the farm of Hugh Ansley.

Right at the outset we must thank the Anslie family for being such amazing hosts. You really made us feel welcome and what a privilege it was to be able to make use of this facility.

This cricket ground is situated at the foot of a mountain and is surrounded by huge oak trees that are 200 years old. This tranquil environment provided the perfect venue for the 130 odd people who attended this event.

Deck chairs and picnic blankets were laid out under the oaks to provide a comfy vantage point to watch the cricket match that took place between a Kingswood staff X1 and a combined OK/OA Midlands team.

The refreshing autumn weather, the raucous “how’s that” from the cricket field, the “well-played boet” from the knowledgeable spectators, and the shrieks of laughter from the large number of young children roughing it in the countryside created the perfect scenario for the family day.

At the conclusion of the cricket, everybody gathered under the oaks where the President of the OK Club, Chris Hobson, welcomed those present. Kingswood’s College Head, Leon Grove, then addressed the gathering where he expressed his delight that we as a community had the opportunity to meet at such a beautiful venue out in the country.

The day’s proceedings were concluded with a sumptuous “lamb on a spit” for lunch and all too soon we headed for home.
