Another great weekend was had for the water polo club this past weekend.
Our U14 girls departed on Thursday for the Pitcairn Cup Water Polo Tournament hosted by Reddam House Constantia in Cape Town.
With some very tough opposition our girls were faced with a challenging weekend, however true to the nature of Kingswood College, our girls didn’t make it easy for any team.
On Day 1 they faced off against Rhenish coming back from 2 goals behind to win the game 5-4. In their second game vs Pearson they went down narrowly 2-3 and in the last game of the day vs Rustenburg our girls bounced back to end with a convincing victory of 8-3.
Day 2 came with new challenges, as our girls faced some of the toughest opposition of the weekend, vs hosts Reddam in a hard-fought match where the girls showed some great teamwork and determination, Reddam came out on top with our girls losing 2-4.
Next up was St Stithians, who proved to be too strong for our girls on the day with Kingswood going down 4-10. The final pool game of the day was vs St Cyprians.
St Cyprians looked like a well-knit unit throughout the tournament and our girls knew they had to pull together, in order to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
The game as described by the coach, was one of the best games of the tournament and a massive victory for our U14 girls with Kingswood managing to top St Cyprians 9-4 at the final whistle.
In the quarterfinal, against a very strong Herschel team, the team once again pushed themselves to the best of their ability, unfortunately losing 3-7.
Nearing the end of a great tournament and experience for our young girls, they entered the play-off stages. Setting their sights on 5th position overall they had to get through local rivals Collegiate.
Unfortunately, our girls went down 2-5. which meant that the girls would face the Reddam U13 team in the fight for 7th position, they managed to secure 7th position out of 14 teams beating Reddam U13 3-2.
Kingswood College is extremely proud of our U14 girls having only been in high school a little over a month, they have shown incredible determination when coming up against tough opposition.
