The annual Kingswood Golf Day in Johannesburg took place on Friday at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club. Wonderful golfing conditions and the much-loved Kingswood spirit made for a wonderful day!
Over 50 golfers gathered on Friday morning to tee off at the beautiful Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club. The spectacular golf course, along with the perfect weather conditions made for a great day out.
Later in the afternoon Old Kingswoodians and Kingswoodians across generations gathered for a wonderful meal, and stories and memories were shared.
Prize giving was held, and Beki Ngulube (OK 2006) managed proceedings as MC. Thanks were made to sponsors, without which events like this could not take place.
The Champion OK Golfer and winner of the trophy was Gary Meyers (OK 1996) with a score of 38.
There were also two very special moments during the evening. The first of which was a unique auction. College Head, Leon Grove introduced the “Green Grass Design Box” which was given to the Lebone Centre in Makhanda by the Oppenheimer Trust. This box included various exciting items and was put on auction after the prize giving. Bought by Cameron Staude (OK 2014), the proceeds will be given back to the Lebone Centre. Thank you for your support, Cameron!
Perhaps the most poignant moment of the evening was the presentation of a new Honorary Old Kingswoodian award. For her dedication to the Gauteng Branch of the OK Club – Sam Morrison was awarded this prestigious title.
“Sam is without doubt a worthy recipient of this honour. A number of years back when we were in need of a chairman for the Gauteng Kingswoodian Club Branch Sam put her hand up. It was soon evident that she would be determined to ensure that the Gauteng Branch would go from strength to strength. No task is too big for her, and she leads from the front. When Sam commits to a task she does not compromise. Her unrelenting devotion to the standards required, her loyalty to Kingswood and her ability to ensure that our Kingswoodian Club functions and events are successful are but a few of her many strengths. Congratulations Sam – you fully deserve this honour that the Old Kingswoodian Club has bestowed on you.” – Carey Hobson (Director of Advancement)
Our sincerest thanks must go to all our sponsors and to each and every one of those Kingswoodians that came out to support us on Friday. We look forward to seeing you later in the year for our next branch event.
