It was a beautiful day for cricket in the picturesque Eastern Cape Midlands on Saturday the 13th of April, as Old Kingswoodians and Old Andrean’s and their friends and families, gathered for the annual friendly game of cricket at The Mill Cricket Club.

The idyllic setting at the Ainslie family’s farm Spring Grove, provided the perfect backdrop for a day and a special thanks must go to Hugh and Marcelle Ainslie for hosting us, preparing the field and their hospitality which warmly appreciated by all in attendance.

Thank you to President of the OK Club, Chris Hobson, once again for also hosting this event on behalf of the OK Club Midland Branch.

This much-anticipated event has become a special tradition in the community and the 2024 edition did not disappoint. It was yet another memorable occasion, strengthening the bonds of not only the Old Kingswoodian community, but also our friends from St Andrews, creating cherished memories and traditions for families to carry forward.

Our thanks must be extended to Kyle van Niekerk (OK 2008) and Hugh Ainslie (OA) for organising the teams and all they did to make the day possible. With families and friends cheering them on, over 90 people gathered to partake in the day. As cars streamed onto the field, picnic blankets and camping chairs quickly dotted the lush grass, and the air was filled with the joyous sounds of children at play and the lively banter of cricketers.

It was particularly special to see the many generations in attendance, and is something College Head, Leon Grove, remarked on during his thanks. This sense of community is very unique, and we hope it see these kinds of events where young and old can enjoy such a beautiful day out together grow and flourish.

Thank you to Karen and Keith Morgan (OK 1977) and their team from The Butcherbird Restaurant, you once again delighted all our guests with a lovely lunchtime spread that is all but famous in the region.

The day concluded with the teams and friends having a final braai under the trees and already looking forward to the event in 2025!
