At the end of the winter term the Stretton Cup was once again awarded to the winner of an annual goal kicking competition with the 2024 champion being Grade 10 pupil, Chad Roodt.
Donated in the early 1960s, the Stretton Cup was established to honour the winner of an annual goal-kicking competition. This tradition aimed to emphasize the critical role of accurate kicking in rugby, recognizing that a well-placed kick can often be the deciding factor in close matches.
Through time the competition fell off the school calendar, but thanks to the initiative of the Stretton family we are pleased to announce that this has been reinstated. The event, held last term, saw an impressive display of skill across all age groups.
What an achievement it was for Chad Roodt, a member of the U15A team, to win this competition against a field of seasoned kickers from the senior division!
Rowan Stretton (OK 1994) presented the trophy to Chad in front of the senior pupils, just before the traditional war cry practice on the eve of the Graeme derby fixture
Kingswood’s Director of Sport Murray Ranger welcomed the reinstatement of this competition stating; “This will encourage our rugby players to practice their kicking and more importantly help them to cope with the pressure that kickers sometimes endure when taking vital shots at goal”.
