Congratulations to the Kingswood 1st XI on a successful tour to Zimbabwe. The team won the finals for the Plate at the St George’s T20 Tournament in Harare.

The Kingswood 1st XI went into the final day of the St George’s T20 tournament knowing that if they were to progress to the final of the plate section, they would need to win 3 matches on the final day.

First up, they took on Christian Brothers College (Bulawayo). Kingswood batted first and put up a modest total of 136 runs in their 20 overs. Kingswood lost their way in the last 5 overs, losing wickets at regular intervals. In reply, CBC managed 97/10 thanks to some disciplined bowling by the Kingswood bowlers.

Kingswood won by 39 runs.

In the semi final of the plate section, Kingswood took on Peterhouse.

Peterhouse batted first, scoring 118/7 in their 20 overs. Josh Loon (4/16) and Daniel Jakins (3/13) bowled brilliantly and were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Kingswood batted well but were never able to get away due to some disciplined bowling and fielding from Peterhouse. Josh Loon (52) batted well and held the innings together. After 20 overs, Kingswood reached 118/8- scores tied.

The match then moved onto a super over- Kingswood batted first and made 10 runs in their super over. In reply, Peterhouse made 2/2 which meant that Kingswood won the game on the super over.

Kingswood played St Andrews College 2nds in the final of the plate section. Kingswood won the toss and batted first. The Kingswood batters played well on a difficult wicket and were able to reach 184/4 in 20 overs. Chris Zimmerman (50 not out) batted well in the final stages of the innings. He was ably supported by Patrick Mouton (31) and David Loudon (28)

In reply, St Andrews started off very well, capitalising on any scoring opportunities. The Kingswood bowlers were made to work hard throughout- the St Andrews batters showing good awareness as they kept the scoreboard ticking.

Some disciplined bowling by Patrick Mouton (3/29) slowed the scoring rate down and swung the momentum of the game back to Kingswood. Benjamin Scharges played superbly for his 66 off 53 balls for St Andrews. In the end, St Andrews reached 164/6 after 20 overs.

Kingswood won the final by 20 runs. This has been a fantastic trip and the group has really enjoyed the cricket, being in Zimbabwe and the hospitality of St George’s College.
