On Sunday, 2 August 2026, Kingswood College will host its 2nd Beacon Ceremony; a moment of quiet reflection and gratitude in honour of Kingswoodians who have passed on.

The Beacon Ceremony will take place at 09h30 in the Kingswood Memorial Chapel, marking the continuation of what has become a meaningful and reflective tradition in the life of the school.

Rooted in remembrance, the Beacon Ceremony celebrates the lives of those who once walked Kingswood’s halls, learnt and taught within its classrooms, and carried its values into the world. As its name suggests, the ceremony symbolises the lighting of a beacon, a gesture that honours the enduring legacy and light left behind by each individual.

The ceremony coincides with Kingswood’s annual Chapel Anniversary Service, during which we honour those Kingswoodians who lost their lives in wartime. This alignment offers a profound opportunity to reflect not only on those who gave their lives in service, but also on the many others who have left a lasting imprint on our school and wider community.

Towards the close of the ceremony, families and loved ones will be invited to light a candle in memory of those they have lost. Thereafter, they may lay a rose at the Garden of Remembrance fountain.

Each year, the ceremony will include a tribute to Kingswoodians whose passing has been recorded since the previous gathering. As invitations rely on the information we receive, we encourage members of the community to share news of any Kingswoodians who have passed away and may not yet appear on our In Memoriam page.

At its heart, the Beacon Ceremony is a simple yet deeply significant act: a moment for families and the school community to pause, reflect, and honour those who are no longer with us, but whose presence continues to be felt in memory and spirit.
