A special Junior School tradition, the Knighting Ceremony, welcomed our new pupils and Grade 1s into the Kingswood College family, officially transforming them from ‘New Bugs’ into ‘Old Bugs’!

During a special Junior Chapel service, each pupil was ceremoniously dubbed with the historic sword, Sir Truscott, as the Grade 7 Good Fellowship Award winners gently tapped their shoulders and recited the traditional words: “New Bug, I dub thee Old Bug – arise, a true Kingswoodian.”

The honour of knighting our new pupils is bestowed upon our Good Fellowship Award recipients who were announced at Prize Giving. For 2026, these recipients were Taz-Lee, Palesa, Eli and Robert.

As Palesa and Robert only joined Kingswood this year, Mrs Wilson first knighted them before they went on to knight our  new Grade 1-6 pupils. While the rest of the new Grade 7s will get knighted at the final Grade 7 Dinner.

This much-loved tradition celebrates belonging, friendship and becoming part of the Kingswood community.

We were delighted to welcome Dr Trevor Davies as our Guest of Honour. Dr Davies is an Old Kingswoodian who left the College in 1982 and has maintained a strong connection with Kingswood, serving on College Council and providing valued leadership to the Junior School Sub-committee.

Dr Davies has served the local community for more than three decades, not only through his professional practice but also through his commitment to making eye care accessible to all those in need. His involvement in initiatives providing spectacles to disadvantaged children and assisting patients awaiting cataract surgery reflects his deep sense of compassion and community service.

We are grateful to Dr Davies for joining us and sharing in this special occasion, and for the many ways in which he continues to give back to both Kingswood and the wider Makhanda community.

Welcome to the Kingswood family, our newest Old Bugs!
