The Kingswood 2020 Strategic Plan laid out an ambitious and exciting plan to transform the way we teach at Kingswood, and what measures we can put in place to truly educate our pupils for life.
It’s from this plan and vision that the ICE Centre was established last year.
The Kingswood ICE Centre (read more about ICE here) is where ideas are turned into reality. Through it, we hope to begin to transform the learning experience for our pupils and staff by introducing interactive learning tools to allow teachers to approach their work in innovative ways that open up new avenues of skill development for our pupils.
Last Thursday a group of our Kingswood staff attended a half day workshop led by Inspire Africa, a group who live by their tagline ‘creating the future today’ with their Inspire S.T.E.A.M. Drone Programme.
The workshop introduced our staff to the world of drone technology, and how it can be used in the classroom as a fun and practical way to teach applied Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics.
“The programme that Inspire run is just that: inspiring. It’s quite amazing the possibilities of learning that are opened when you add a drone into the mix: suddenly, learning comes to life. You’re coding. You’re seeing your physics principles at work. Your maths problem is not just on your page any more- it’s flying across the class. Who doesn’t want to learn like that?”
Megan Erasmus, Brand Development Manager
Still in its early stages, the drone programme is part of the growing Kingswood ICE (Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship) programme and promises an exciting year for pupils and staff alike.
