Kingswood’s Flagship Community Engagement Programme, The Lebone Centre is a NGO based in Makhanda, which serves marginalised communities through innovative programmes. For years, The OK Club has provided a donation, which goes towards two bursaries as well as covering various running costs.

The Old Kingswoodian Club is a very proud supporter of The Lebone Centre, which operates in Currie Street, Makhanda. The Lebone Centre provides educational support to children and families in marginalized communities in Makhanda through a pipeline programme of projects. They are also the home of The Little Red Dragon Pre-School, where 28 children attend pre-Grade R.

Every year, The Old Kingswoodian Club gives a donation to the Lebone Centre which provides two bursaries to The Little Red Dragon. Furthermore, the donation supports two Aftercare Club Facilitator salaries, food expenses for the aftercare programme as well as other vital running costs.

This year, The Old Kingswoodian Club was invited to attend The Little Red Dragon’s year end concert as well as the After Care and Enrichment Programme’s Year End Concert. It was an absolute delight to see the joy on the children’s faces, as they showcased their talents for parents, grandparents, and members of the wider Makhanda community. Such joy has been fostered through the dedicated staff at The Lebone Centre. The centre strives to improve the lives of the children who attend their programmes. They do this in partnership with Kingswood College, as the Lebone Centre remains their flagship community engagement programme.

The Lebone Centre has been generously supported by donors for the last two years, and unfortunately this funding comes to an end at the end of 2022. We therefore encourage anyone who is looking for a worthy cause to consider supporting The Lebone Centre, as they continue to provide vital services within the Early Childhood Development space in Makhanda.
