After a remarkable school boy rugby career at Kingswood, Shingi is now set to make his mark as he represents Racing 92 in France.
Shingi Manyarara (OK 2022) has recently touched down in the French capital and will be starting his 3-year contract with French Top 14 side, Racing 92. Shingi will also be representing Zimbabwe U20 (Junior Sables) in the upcoming World Rugby Under-20 Trophy next week, which will be played in Kenya, after which he will return to Racing 92 in France.
Shingi, who began his schooling career and grew up in Zimbabwe, arrived at Kingswood College in 2021, and proceeded to take the schoolboy rugby division by storm. His representatives, Izzat Sports Management had this to say about Shingi; “At just 19 years old, Shingi has already made a significant impact with his exceptional size, power and speed. Joining Racing 92 presents an incredible opportunity for Shingi to play alongside and learn from legendary back rowers like Yannick Nyanga and Siya Kolisi. Congratulations, Shingi”.
Shingi’s Kingswood journey earned him Honours for Rugby and saw him make the Eastern Province Craven Week team in 2022. Head of Rugby, James Winstanley said in Shingi’s Honours citation, “Shingi possesses the rare athletic attributes of size, power, and speed with his explosive performances this season causing havoc to opposition teams. His positive attitude and willingness to receive feedback, enabled him to improve in every game of the season with his continued progress earning him a reputation of being one of the best loose forwards in the country”.
Upon his selection to Racing 92, Shingi remarked on the impact that Kingswood has had on him; “Thank you Kingswood for accepting me into your fold and for allowing me to grow into a better person, both in character and in the game”.
As a school, we are incredibly proud of Shingi for all that he has achieved! Well done Shingi, and good luck for the next leg of your journey.
