On Friday the Botswana Branch of the Kingswoodian Club organised the very first Botswana Golf Day in Gaborone. With a full field of golfers, and a packed function thereafter, the day was a great success!

With the idea of the Golf Day first pitched at last years OK function in Gaborone – a group of dedicated Old Kingswoodians took on the task of organising the first ever Kingswood Golf Day outside South African borders. After months of meticulous planning – the event took place on Friday, 9 February at the Gaborone Golf Club.

A full field of 72 players turned up in support of the day. The players included Old Kingswoodians and parents, as well as alumni and parents from various other schools. After a successful shotgun start, the day ran smoothly. The day was made even more memorable by the presence of wonderful sponsors at each hole of the course who ensured that the players were well fed and hydrated.

The evening saw a wonderful prize-giving ceremony as well as a wonderful cocktail event, where we had over 120 guests join.

To end off a fantastic day, Old Kingswoodian, Rod Hawkins (OK 1962) was presented with a Kingswood rugby jersey to thank him for years of loyal support to his Alma Mater. Rod played prop for the Kingswood 1st XV in 1962, and he remains an avid supporter of Kingswood rugby.

Days like these do not simply happen – they are the product of months of hard work. We thank Mike O’Keeffe (OK 1998), Steven Parry (OK 2002), Michele Haskins (OK 2000), David Judd (OK 2003) and Chibayi Bagwasi (OK 1998) for taking on this mammoth task. It was an incredible day!

We must also extend our thanks to the Kingswood team who came out in support of the event: Leon Grove (College Head), Tracy van Molendorff (Head : Senior School), Danel Pruissen (Enrolment Experience Officer), Carey Hobson (Director : Development) and Dee Hobson (OK Club Shop). Your presence was much appreciated.

A final thanks to each and every person who supported the day, whether as a sponsor, a player or a guest at the evening function. Kingswood thanks you. We look forward to an even bigger and better golf day next year – this event promises to become a firm favourite in the calendar.Â
