All eyes will be on Old Kingswoodian, Ruth Plaskett (OK 2014 stage name: Samantha Carlisle) this week, as she, along with co-star, Kamgelo Mhlantla present “The Year of the Bicycle” at the annual National Arts Festival.

Written by Joanna Evans, directed by Dara Beth and described as “sweetly whimsical and engrossing”, The Year of the Bicycle presents a story of two friends, who come from vastly different backgrounds. After life takes them in different directions, they are once again brought together after both fall into a coma at the same time. In their confused minds – they meet once again.

“This moving play articulates with such sensitivity and nuance the loneliness imposed by South Africa’s wounded history and ongoing distress. It was beautifully performed with both actors bringing authenticity and to their roles”

With only four performances over the National Arts Festival, this is one you do not want to miss.
