Former Springbok Captain, Morné du Plessis and Western Province rugby and cricket player, Bossie Clarke paid a visit to Kingswood College to chat to our school’s various 1st teams.
Former Western Province rugby and cricket player, Bossie Clarke, and former Springbok captain, Morné du Plessis, visited Kingswood on 7 February to speak with some of our 1st team sportsmen and women about the power of team cohesion. Opportunities like this are invaluable for our pupils, offering insight into competing at the highest level of sport.
Morné du Plessis is often regarded as one of the Springboks’ most successful captains. During his five-year tenure, the Springboks won 13 of 15 matches, giving him an impressive 86.66% success rate. He also served as manager of the iconic 1995 World Cup-winning Springbok team. Du Plessis comes from a remarkable sporting lineage—his father, Felix, was also a Springbok captain, while his mother, Pat, captained the South African women’s hockey team. To date, Felix and Morné remain the only father-and-son duo to have both captained the Springboks, and Morné is the only Springbok captain born to parents who both led national teams.
A huge thank you Paul Hobson (OK 1976) for arranging for these South African sporting legends to share their exceptional life and sporting experiences with our pupils.
