The fairways of Belmont Golf Club were full of energy, laughter, and purpose on Thursday, 12 June, as golfers teed off for the annual Legends Golf Day – a firm tradition in the Kingswood College calendar and the much-anticipated start to K-Day weekend.
This event is about more than just a good (sometimes frustrating?) round of golf. It is about community — a community that shows up, gives generously, and believes in the power of opportunity. Every swing of a club, every bid placed, and every moment shared on the day helped support the Legends Fund, which provides financial assistance to deserving pupils so they can experience a Kingswood education.
Thanks to the unwavering support of our incredible sponsors — businesses and individuals alike — this year’s event was a resounding success. We are proud to acknowledge our 2025 Legends Golf Day title and auction sponsors: Standard Bank, Settler City Toyota, KVM Energy Projects, Amakhala Game Reserve, John X Safaris, Serac, Authentic Retreats, Barrington’s Small Hotel, Gary’s Refrigeration and Appliances, Port Elizabeth Hotel Group (Pumba Private Game Reserve), African Waters, Rare Earth Retreats, Seasons in Africa, Safari Blue Zanzibar, Plett Country Club, Goose Valley Golf Club, Simola Golf and Country Estate, Pezula Golf Estate, Mpekweni Beach Resort, Buffalo Kloof, St Francis Links Golf, The Harbour Club at Port St Francis, Sharazad Boutique Hotels, The Fieldbar Co., The Oyster Collection, Leeu Estates, Lalibela Wildlife Reserve and many others.
The online auction that launched ahead of the day sparked tremendous interest and extended the reach of the event far beyond Belmont’s greens — bringing together Old Kingswoodians, parents and friends from across the country and beyond. From safari lodge getaways and local travel escapes, to fine art, field gear, golf holidays, a power station, a premium air-conditioning installation, and even a whole lamb with a chest freezer, the auction was a vivid reflection of the generosity and diversity of support for Kingswood. Many of the auction items came from long-standing friends of the school who continue to give, year after year, in support of this cause. Some guests went home with extraordinary experiences — while others, like the winner of a whole lamb, chose to gift it straight back in support of the Fund.
The day itself unfolded beautifully: 22 four-balls teed off at 11h00 in a shotgun start under clear skies. By 15h30, players began making their way to the Clubhouse for a vibrant prizegiving, an exciting live auction run by former Kingswood parent Ian Sheard, and well-earned refreshments. With prizes awarded for everything from the longest drive to lucky draw entries, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
A heartfelt thank you must go to Gregg Rippon (OK 1983), whose leadership and attention to detail ensured another superbly run event, and to Jess Birch (OK 2001) for her cheerful coordination on the day. Her deep Kingswood ties and infectious energy helped make the event all the more special.
As we tally the final numbers, one thing is already clear: this year’s Legends Golf Day was a remarkable demonstration of the strength and heart of the Kingswood community. To every donor, bidder, player, and sponsor — thank you. Your support is making a real and lasting difference in the lives of children who will carry the legacy of this generosity forward.
We look forward to sharing the final fundraising results in the days ahead — but today, we celebrate you, our Legends.
