It is always inspiring to witness the remarkable achievements of our Old Kingswoodians as they continue to make a positive impact beyond Kingswood College.

James Brodie (OK 1986) recently received the prestigious Regenerative Land Leadership Award from Textile Exchange at the organization’s annual awards ceremony, held in Lisbon during their global conference. This internationally judged award is presented each year to a fibre producer who demonstrates outstanding leadership in regenerative agriculture.

The Regenerative Land Leadership Award honours a producer who exemplifies the practical application of regenerative principles through measurable action and accountability. From enhancing soil health to supporting biodiversity, recipients showcase tangible, nature-positive outcomes that contribute to the restoration and resilience of the land.

Textile Exchange is a global non-profit organization committed to driving positive transformation across the textile and fashion industries, particularly in how raw materials are produced, sourced, and utilized. The organization helps companies reduce the climate and environmental impact of their materials by promoting preferred fibres such as cotton, wool, mohair, alpaca, and cashmere, all under rigorous ethical and sustainability standards.

Textile Exchange also establishes internationally recognized benchmarks for responsible production, standards proudly upheld by the South African mohair industry. Guided by a mission to create a global textile system that protects the planet, empowers people, and restores ecosystems, Textile Exchange has set an ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fibre and material production by 45% by 2030.

Representing the South African mohair sector, Mr. Chris Hobson (OK 1990), President of the Old Kingswoodian Club and Chairman of Mohair South Africa, attended the event as an invited guest. He participated in a panel discussion on Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) and its growing role within the European Union’s sustainability policy framework.

During the discussion, Mr. Hobson shared valuable insights into the practical challenges and real-world implications of implementing PEF at the producer level, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that sustainability standards are both effective and achievable in agricultural practice.

It is truly remarkable to see two Old Kingswoodians excelling on the international stage within the agricultural sector. Their leadership and contribution to sustainable, regenerative practices reflect not only their personal dedication, but also the enduring values of stewardship, integrity, and excellence fostered at Kingswood College.
