On the 4th of February 2026, Kingswood College officially started a new tradition by Raising the Jacques House flag
Over the illustrious 132-year history of Kingswood College, our school has grown tremendously, and with this growth came the addition of boarding houses; School House (which was built in 1896), was split into Gane House and Chubb House in 1955, Wood House was named in 1921, and Jagger House in 1934. Kingswood became a co-educational school in 1973, and Senior Girls’ boarding was introduced in 1976 in the existing Jacques House, followed by a new girls’ boarding House named Kirkby in 2005. We also now have a Day Girls’ House, Wesley House, and more recently, Hobson House.
All pupils who enter our Senior School at Kingswood are allocated a House for sport, often according to family lineage. Boys and girls proudly represent their Sporting House during Inter-House events, academic, sporting and cultural competitions, reflecting our strong family values as a co-educational school.
To mark the significant milestone of 50 years of girls’ boarding at Kingswood College, a new flagpole has been erected outside our Chapel. From this day forth, we will begin a new tradition of raising not only a different Sports House flag each week, but also a girls’ House flag. Representing all the Houses on campus.
This morning, 04 February, 2026 after our Senior Assembly the school gathered at the flagpoles for the momentous raising of the Jacques House flag by Head of House, Karen Makuke and Grade 8 Jess Windsor.
