Three First Team Victories Headline Successful K-Day for Kingswood

The annual K-Day derby between Kingswood College, St Andrew’s College and DSG once again delivered all the excitement, passion and tradition that have made it one of the most anticipated fixtures on the Eastern Cape school sporting calendar.

Hosted this year by DSG and St Andrew’s College, K-Day 2026 saw pupils, parents, staff and alumni gather in large numbers to celebrate a long-standing rivalry built on respect, camaraderie and sporting excellence.

Despite challenging weather conditions disrupting parts of the  programme, Kingswood’s 1st teams rose to the occasion, recording three impressive victories from four major fixtures.

Rugby Dominates from the Start

The Kingswood 1st XV produced a commanding performance against St Andrew’s College, securing a convincing 29-10 victory.

Kingswood set the tone early, racing into a 14-0 lead before continuing to apply pressure through disciplined defence and clinical attacking play. By halftime, the visitors had built a formidable 26-0 advantage.

St Andrew’s responded strongly after the break, scoring 12 points in the second half, but Kingswood remained in control throughout and added a penalty to complete an impressive 29-10 win.

The result reflected a composed and dominant display from a side that has continued to grow in confidence throughout the season.

Netball Claims Fifth Consecutive K-Day Victory

The Kingswood 1st Netball team once again demonstrated why they are one of the College’s most consistent performers, defeating DSG 33-26 to secure a remarkable fifth consecutive K-Day victory.

After weather delays forced the match to be moved to Kingswood’s High Performance Centre, the girls showed outstanding maturity and professionalism.

Kingswood established an early lead and, despite a determined DSG fightback that narrowed the margin to just two goals heading into the final quarter, the team held their nerve when it mattered most.

Strong teamwork, disciplined structures and unwavering belief carried the girls home in front of a passionate Kingswood crowd.

Special recognition goes to 1st team captain Chloe Conyers and Vice Captain, Lucy Nagel, who celebrated their fourth K-Day victory after both earning 1st team honours as Grade 9 pupils, a remarkable achievement that speaks to their leadership and longevity within the programme.

Historic Hockey Win for the Boys

One of the standout moments of the week came from the Kingswood 1st XI Boys’ Hockey team, who secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over St Andrew’s College.

Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Kingswood mounted an extraordinary comeback inspired by resilience, belief and exceptional teamwork.

Goalkeeper Aphelele (Josh) Cromhout was outstanding throughout, producing a series of crucial saves to keep his side in contention. Tyler Ray reduced the deficit with a superb drag flick before Luke Goldschmidt levelled the scores with less than four minutes remaining.

With just 43 seconds left on the clock, Goldschmidt struck again, scoring the winning goal and sparking jubilant celebrations among players and supporters alike.

The victory marked Kingswood’s first K-Day boys’ hockey win in more than a decade, making it a truly memorable occasion for the team and the wider school community.

Courageous Effort from Girls’ Hockey

The Kingswood 1st Girls’ Hockey team faced a strong DSG side and, despite ultimately going down 3-0, delivered a performance filled with determination, courage and sportsmanship.

Led by captain Megan Sheard and vice-captain Iminathi Rungqu, the girls battled tirelessly throughout the match. Goalkeeper Caitlin Steymann was exceptional between the posts, making numerous outstanding saves to keep Kingswood in the contest for much of the game.

Although DSG added two late goals to secure the result, the girls never stopped fighting and represented Kingswood with pride until the final whistle.

More Than Just Results

While the victories were certainly cause for celebration, K-Day once again demonstrated that the event is about far more than wins and losses. It is a celebration of tradition, school spirit, friendship and healthy rivalry, bringing together generations of pupils, parents, staff and alumni.

Kingswood extends its congratulations to St Andrew’s College and DSG for hosting another outstanding K-Day and for the sportsmanship displayed across all fixtures.
