What started out as a much-anticipated Family Bowls Day in Gqeberha took an unexpected turn when the heavens opened and the excessive rainfall resulted in the Walmer Bowls Club closing its greens.
On Friday, 18 September, the Kingswoodian Club’s planned Family Bowls Day was reworked into a Music Trivia Evening, hosted by the PE OK Group. Not to be deterred, the group quickly adapted the plans, and what could have been a disappointment turned into a wonderful evening of laughter, friendly competition and Kingswoodian camaraderie.
The evening was expertly hosted by David Mason (OK 2001), who kept the teams entertained and the competition lively as everyone put their musical knowledge to the test.
Congratulations to the winning team, ‘Rolling with the 08’s’, made up of Martin (OK 2008) and Jan Hemple, Kate (OK 2008) and Charl De Kock, Andrea Buchanan (OK 2008) and Andrew. Well done on taking out the top spot!
The evening was truly a family affair, with plenty of entertainment arranged for the younger Kingswoodians. Nicole (née Mason, OK 2002) ensured that the children were well looked after, with crafts and party packs keeping them happily entertained throughout the evening. A big thank you to Nicole for making sure our youngest guests had just as much fun as the grown-ups!
We were also delighted to welcome Carey (OK 1974) and Dee (Hon. OK) Hobson, Danel Pruissen, and Lauren (née Kent, OK 2006), who made the trip from Kingswood to join the celebrations.
A huge thank you must go to the committee group Dinkie Rowsell (nee Eksteen, OK 2001), Hugh Oxenham (OK 1999), Nicole Ward-Able (nee Mason, OK 2002), Craig Scott (OK 1995), David Mason (OK 2001), Kim Williams (nee Yates, OK 1983), Kylie Riddin (nee Fetting, OK 2003) & Basil Biggs (OK 2001) for their wonderful effort in making the evening such a success, despite the weather not playing along with the original plans. Their ability to adapt ensured that the Gqeberha Kingswoodian community could still come together and enjoy a memorable evening.
While the bowls may have been rained out, the spirit of the day certainly was not!
We hope it will not be too long before the PE OK Group gathers everyone together again for the next event, hopefully with a little less rain next time!
