Last weekend, Kingswood welcomed the class of 1983 back on campus to enjoy in a weekend of festivities.
It was a weekend filled with laughter and story-telling, as the class of 1983 arrived in Makhanda on Friday the 10th of March. After spending a few nights in Kenton, they drove up and met at the Wyvern in the afternoon.
Highlights of the weekend included attending the Foundation Day Dinner in the HPC. Over 550 Kingswoodians and friends enjoyed the traditional “Steak, egg and Chips followed by Apple Crumble”. It was a night to remember! A special moment included some of the class members witnessing Mrs Shirley Fletcher (aka Ma Fletch) receiving the Honorary Old Kingswoodian award at the OK Club AGM, for almost 50 years of service to the school. The class ended off their Saturday with a game of tennis and a wonderful curry evening at the Wyvern.
A emotional farewell was bid to the class of 1983 at the Foundation Day Chapel Service on Sunday morning, where 1983 Head Girl, Kim Williams read out the roll of honour and they sang “God be with you till we meet again”.
Events like these do not simply happen, and a special vote of thanks must go to Justin Wilmot for the enormous effort he put into contacting his class, and rallying them all to get together. We hope to see you all again very soon, and we thank you for making the trip to come and visit Kingswood!
