In honour of his long-standing service and impactful contribution to Rhodes University, Dr Geoffrey de Jager has been appointed Honorary Life President of the Rhodes University Trust
De Geoffrey de Jager (OK 1968) was born and raised in Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, and began his Kingswood College schooling career in 1963, and he matriculated in 1968. He played a pivotal role in creating a culture of musical excellence at Kingswood – a role for which our school remains forever grateful.
Upon matriculating, Geoffrey completed his first degree at Rhodes University and then went on to the University of Natal where he obtained his LLB in 1975.
Geoffrey was a founding director of Rand Merchant Bank, where he served as Executive Director for many years. After moving to the UK, he established Anglo Suisse Investment Holdings which is now a leader in specialist corporate finance.
He is also deeply invested in philanthropic and charitable work across the world. Geoffrey and his wife, Caroline support organisations both in South Africa and the UK. He is the patron of Sparrow Schools Foundation, and he has played a major role in the Rhodes University Trust. Geoffrey is also a member of the International Council at the Global Leadership Find and he is major benefactor to the Trinity College Oxford – where in 2015 he was elected as the Sir Thomas Honorary fellow of Trinity College.
He also has a keen interest in the arts. In 2014 he was made Life President of the Oxford Philomusica. Both Geoffrey and his wife, Caroline are significant contributors to Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum.
In 2012, Rhodes University conferred upon him an Honorary Degree in Law, and recently he has been made Honorary Life President of the Rhodes University Trust – a fitting gesture for the many years of dedication to his worthy contribution and service.
