Summer Term 2021 Foundation Office Update

The Summer Term of 2021 is over and while Covid remains, it was heart-warming to see school-life increasingly return to normal as the term went on. For the Kingswood Foundation, big projects on the horizon covered in this newsletter include the urgent renewal of the astroturf, advertising opportunities around City Lords and the astro, the Exemplar Wall and the ‘stronger together’ campaign for the Legends Fund to name a few. LEADing the way for Term 1

The Kingswood College Leadership Institute hit the ground running in Term 1 with three free online short courses. Teacher in charge Ms Carey de Coning gives us a summary of the courses if you missed them.

2021 Christian Youth Camp

Last weekend over 90 pupils signed up for our annual Christian Youth Camp in Boknes (near Kenton). There were no tents or hikes but hot water and warm beds so we called it the ‘Christian Glamp’ (glamorous camping).

Kingswood Concert Series Kicks Off with Combined Concert

The very first event of the new ‘Kingswood Concert Series’ initiative was held last Thursday evening at the Wyvern Club. The concept behind this is for musicians from Kingswood, St Andrew’s and DSG to get together to share their common interest – the love of music and of playing an instrument.

Uyinene Mrwetyana Inaugural Commemorative Lecture

On Monday, 29 March 2021, Kingswood College hosted the inaugural Uyinene Mrwetyana Commemorative Lecture in partnership with the Uyinene Mrwetyana Foundation.

The vision for this annual event was that it should seek to remember and celebrate the life of Uyinene around the time of her birthday each year. A day to stop, pause and reflect on who Uyinene was and the legacy that she has left behind.

Steve Gardner honoured at Port Alfred Golf Day

Steve Gardner retired from the Kingswood staff at the end of 2020 having served as Business Manager at Kingswood for 15 years from January 2006 till December 2020. His contribution to the school was immense and under his astute guidance many changes and new buildings popped up on the Kingswood campus. However, Steve’s passion for Kingswood was shared with his passion for golf, especially at his home club, The Royal Port Alfred Golf Club.
